Look Good. Be Useful.

On the Inconsistency of Google

Monday, August 22, 2005

While once being able to proudly boast that Googling for "gordon grace" (with or without quotes) returned this site at the top of the search results, it would appear that my Google rating has slipped somewhat.

A quick glance at Google's rating technique, a manually-submitted URL, appropriate keyword insertions into the home page's meta-data and a review of white-hat/black-hat search engine ratings boosters resulted in a meaningful (albeit temporary) rise back to the top of the results.

Now, less than 12 hrs later, the rankings have shifted again: GordonGrace.com.au has again slipped to almost the bottom of the page - below the earlier competitors - static sites with obscure news releases mentioning 'gordon grace'.

Ensuring that my created sites all contain a link back to this domain does not seem sufficient for maintaining a relevance rank - if not that, then what?
